This week we learned about Professional Etiquette and the importance of remaining professional in all of your endeavors. There are hundreds and hundreds of hopefuls that try to kick start their career in modeling and acting every year but a TRUE professional model is extremely rare! You want to be one of these!!!!!! These models are asked for by name by clients and develop relationships with them and in doing so begin to see a steady stream of work. We are not posting any questions for you to reply to this week since you will need to complete the Professional Etiquette Quiz (found in your notes) and turn it in at the start of class on Monday May 27th, 2013! I mentioned this at the start of class but I forgot to remind you all at the end. I have posted the assignment here on the Student Center AND the assignment is in your notes in the syllabus. YOU KNOW THAT IT IS DUE! You must complete this quiz even if you were NOT in class! The answers can be found in your Professional Etiquette Notes! You must pass this quiz with a 75% or better otherwise you will be required to re-take the Professional Etiquette Class. You are a direct representation of EXCEL and we must be confident in your ability to represent the company well! This is a huge and awesome responsibility! A NOTICE TO ALL STUDENTS: Saturday June 8th, 2013 from 12:30-4:30 PM is the "Breaking into the Business" and "Marketing 101" Seminars. YOU AND YOUR PARENTS (if under 18) ARE REQUIRED TO BE AT THIS SEMINAR!!! We encourage you to also invite any relative or significant other that is involved in your life so that they can also come and learn about the industry and see just what you will be doing. This will help you to be able to communicate with them about what you are doing in this field! I wanted to mention this class again because we are getting closer and closer to the end of the session and I do not want for anyone to forget! The On Camera Workshop with International Award Winning Photographer Ben Moody is scheduled for June 3rd, 2013 It is designed to introduce you to being in front of the camera with a professional photographer. We suggests that you dress "cute" for this class as there will be photographs taken and you will be able to purchase a CD of your class the following week for $5.00. If you wish to purchase a CD of the class please bring $5.00 cash to class with you June 10th, 2013. The On Camera Workshop is NOT designed to provide you with a COMP CARD or HEADSHOT. This week we discussed and worked on ADVANCED RUNWAY!!! We have gone through all of the steps for several walks, body positions, meshing, marks, ques, etc! NOW IT IS TIME TO APPLY IT! You will need to continue practicing! If you don't use it then you will lose it!!!! 4. This next week- We are going to be learning all about PROFESSIONAL ETIQUETTE!!!! This is a very important class and you MUST ATTEND! Please make sure that you have your notes with you and a pen/paper to write on! Your weekly post assignment: 1. What is your favorite thing about runway? 2. What is meshing? 3. What is your cue to walk out on the runway (from behind the stage) as the first model? What about your cue as the second, third, or fourth model? 4. What two turns did we learn this week? 5. Where might you see "platform modeling" and what turn would you use?? Hello Actors, This week we spent majority of our time going over your script prep! You can see just how important it is to be completely prepared and commited to your characters. You will never be able to come up with EVERY SINGLE DETAIL when it comes to your character but the true goal should be to KNOW your character SO WELL that you will instictively know the answer to any question we send your way! Your weekly assignment: Please post a comment on THIS post and tell us: 1. How do you feel communication is important when it comes to performing your scripts? 2. How might your relationship with a character affect your scene? EX: MOM VS. BEST FRIEND? 3. How do you use non-verbal communication when your performing your scripts? *REMEMBER* Student Posts will be posted weekly and it is an assignment (worth some points!) for you to do. You must post on the Student Center– on the post-for that week before your NEXT class! Hello Models, Well! We certainly had a very exciting night this week learning all about Diet & Nutrition!! I know that it can be very tedious and honestly quite boring for some of you - BUT - that doesn't change the fact that it is very important and SO RELEVANT to you! Unfortunately, this industry is very focused on appearance and so it is easy to get lost in everything and caught up in it. My goal this past Monday night was to give you the basics on HOW food works with your body.. not what to do! I think that you have enough people telling you what to do and what not to so instead I want to give you the facts and let you think critically about your own decisions! Your Weekly Assignment: Please post a comment on THIS post and tell us: 1. What do you feel was the most interesting piece of information you learned from Diet & Nutrition? 2. What is ketosis? 3. What are calories? How many calories per gram are in 1. Carbs? Proteins? Lipids? 4. What are lipids? *REMEMBER* Student Posts will be posted weekly and it is an assignment (worth some points!) for you to do. You must post on the Student Center– on the post-for that week before your NEXT class! Hello Actors, This week you all got to work first hand with Summer Moody! She worked with you on selecting a monologue and how to move an audience! A monologue can be an actors best friend... or your worst enemy! When you are selecting a monologue... you need to do so carefully!!! This will be an audition piece for you and it is meant to show off your abilities as an actor!! Your weekly assignment: Please post a comment on THIS post and tell us: 1. What exactly is a monologue? 2. What is one great tip that you learned last night concerning monologues? 3. Your homework for this week is to find at least ONE monologue and to complete script prep for said monologue. You should practice and learn your monologue by NEXT WEEK! You can use all of the same tips and tricks that you learned with the scripts that were provided for you in class. You should also be prepared to possibly perform your SCRIPTS and MONOLOGUE next week in class!!! (You can post on here that you are working on this assignment as # 3) BONUS POINTS: No matter what industry you are involved in it is very important to know your industry inside and out! When it comes to film and television- this means more than just knowing who starred in a feature film. There are literally hundreds of people that are involved in making just ONE feature film and unfortunatly their names go unnoticed. Your bonus point opportunity: The FIRST person to give me the name of at least ONE director that has directed at two of the highest grossing films of all time will receive 3 bonus points! GOOD LUCK! *REMEMBER* Student Posts will be posted weekly and it is an assignment (worth some points!) for you to do. You must post on the Student Center– on the post-for that week before your NEXT class! GET READY! There is a lot of information in this post! When you first thought of modeling- you probably just thought to yourself "It sure would be fun to take some pictures" and that is probably all that you thought models did! Well hopefully it is easy to see after this class that there is so much more to modeling that you thought! This week you all learned about all the different types of modeling and a special type of modeling called "Tearoom". While it sounds kind of funny and probably feels a little awkward at first- this is a great type of modeling that could possibly keep you busy in between all of the Runway that you were hoping for! It is so important to be prepared at a moments notice for ANY kind of an event! Your weekly assignment: Please post a comment on THIS post and tell us: 1. What exactly IS "tearoom" and can you tell us what kind of a social event/fuctions you might see or do this type of modeling at? 2. Please give at least THREE specific pieces of information that you should include in your presentation when modeling for a tearoom event. EX: Name- Hi, My name is Zach! (You cannot use "name" in your answer now!) 3. How do you feel about Tearoom? Do you think that this is a type of modeling that you would enjoy? Do you plan on pursuing tearoom opportunities if presented to you? 4. What is the difference between a fashion print AD and an editorial spread? 5. What type of modeling would you consider runway to be? 6. In between runway shows, fashion shoots, and editorial jobs- where might a model make the majority of his or her income? HINT: What type of modeling/print work is most abundant? PHOTO FILE: You have been assigned your first major project for this class! Your photo file (also called a "swipe file"- because you are literally "swiping" ideas from magazines) will be due at your Personal Evaluation! The Personal Evaluations are held at the end of your session... this means that you have at LEAST seven weeks to finish this project! This project should show us that you are able to distinguish the difference between commercial print, fashion print, editorial, etc. and provide you with some experience in doing so! This also will provide you with an opportunity to STUDY other models and their movement in front of the camera when working on sections like facial expressions and body positions. You should pay attention to the way that they are posed and study this carefully! Finally, you will begin to pull some ideas together for your own photo shoot! In class, we discussed what types of modeling you are most interested in doing. You should be able to look at this and begin pulling ads that you would like to imitate! You have any questions on the photo file then please do not hesitate to ask me or look in your notes for specific instructions! BONUS POINTS: I said above that when you first started modeling you probably thought to yourself "It sure would be fun to take some pictures". This is incorrect. A model should never say "I like to take pictures", "I just want to take pictures", "I think I look good in pictures". When your agent calls you with a job they will never say "it's for pictures"- they will use the CORRECT terminology. When you enter into any profession it is important to be able to speak intelligently about it and this industry is no different! We are able to tell a beginner from a pro simply by the way they talk about the industry. Your bonus point opportunity is: The FIRST person to comment on this post and tell me the correct terminology when referring to "pictures" will earn 3 bonus points. HINT: It is two words ________ ________. GOOD LUCK! *REMEMBER* Student Posts will be posted weekly and it is an assignment (worth some points!) for you to do. You must post on the Student Center– on the post-for that week before your NEXT class! Hello Actors, When it comes to acting... there are so many different aspects that you must take into account. You have to think of your character, your back-story, co-actors, the scene, personal stories to pull from, and more! What is even more daunting is that you have to find away to bring all of these thoughts and emotions together! It is easy to see that acting is not nearly as simple as some people think. This week we spent a lot of time discussing the importance of script prep, how to do it correctly, and how to mark your scripts! I want for all of you to be working on this over the next week and have some stuff finalized and ready to turn in to us NEXT WEEK! Your script prep should be completed as followed: 1. You should make COPIES of your scripts and turn in one copy that you have MARKED (we learned about this in class tonight). 2. You should TYPE your script prep and turn in a copy of it along (keep one for yourself) along with the script that you have done the prep for and marked!! This is a major project for you- WORTH SOME POINTS! Your weekly assignment: Please post a comment on THIS post and tell us: 1. What do you feel is the script that you have connected to the most? 2. Do you feel that you are able to pull from your personal experiences to prepare yourself emotionally? 3. Please tell us why some people may find it more difficult to prepare a script based in a fantasy world compared to one based in every day life. *REMEMBER* Student Posts will be posted weekly and it is an assignment (worth some points!) for you to do. You must post on the Student Center– on the post-for that week before your NEXT class! Hello Everyone! We had a VERY exciting class this week where we learned all about RUNWAY! We discussed both the technical aspects of runway as well as actually practiced some techniques! We will have plenty of more time to practice and we have TONS more to learn but you are off to a great start! You all did a WONDERFUL job of picking up the walks! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you can do with some of the more advanced stuff! I hope that you all enjoyed it! Your weekly assignment: Please post a comment on THIS post and tell us: 1. How many feet positions are there and what are their names? 2. What was your favorite turn that you learned (USE THE REAL NAME)? 3. What do you feel you need to work on the most when it comes to runway? *REMEMBER* Student Posts will be posted weekly and it is an assignment (worth some points!) for you to do. You must post on the Student Center– on the post-for that week before your NEXT class!
